Feedback by starbursts - the case of the missing link NGC4700

While feedback on the ISM/IGM by nucleated starbursts is well understood anddescribed, it is less obvious how distributed starformation influences theISM/IGM connection and any associated large scale flow of matter. The target ofthis proposal, NGC4700, is a unique case with two regions of very intensivestarformation symmetric to the nucleus. The filamentary structure of the diffuseionized gas and the associated radiocontinuum emission suggest a high pressureof the ISM driving a large scale outflow. Xray observations with XMM/Newtonwill allow us to test this hypothesis and provide physical parameters importantto quantify feedback.
