Protists community structure in anoxic sediments were investigated in order to understand ecological role of eukaryotic unicellular organisms that play a central role in benthic food webs throughout microbial loop. Composition of 18S rRNA gene from benthic protists were investigated in lakes of various salinity conditions: coastal saline/brackish lakes and inland freshwater lake correspond to Lakes Hiruga, Suigetsu and Biwa in Japan.
