Expired, blue colored soy products were observed in a home refrigerator. The soy products were cultured and isolated at a UC Davis laboratory. Two species of bacteria were isolated from each of the soy products, but it was found that only P. lactis was the causative agent of the blue discoloration. The co-ocurring bacterium was classified using 16S rRNA gene sequencing and identified as Serratia liquifaciens.
