Online activists’ representation of sexual harassment issues on social media platform in Indonesia

The rise of online activism has provided an opportunity for activists to amplify social change and to discuss significant issues, including sexual harassment issues. This paper analyzes the representation of online activists on sexual harassment issues by observing types of activism displayed and psychological strategies employed. Using content analysis approach, this study explores activism on three Instagram accounts namely @magdaleneid, @perempuanberkisah, and @_perempuan_. The result shows that the representation of sexual harassment issues focuses on awareness-advocacy campaign, aiming at raising awareness and educating followers on key issues related to sexual harassment. Various psychological strategies were employed, with authority/credibility, storytelling/narratives, emotional appeals, and calls to action being the most commonly used.
