The mitochondrial genomes of nematomorphs are enriched with long inverted repeats that are embedded in the coding sequences of their genes. This remarkable feature is exclusive to the phylum, and presents a perplexing twist to the evolution of organellar DNA. Only a handful of mitochondrial genomes from Nematomorpha have been explored. To improve the sampling of nematomorphs and provide additional data for comparative analyses, we have sequenced genomic and transcriptomic libraries of Parachordodes pustulosus.
