Examining Leisure-Time Physical Activity Participation Among Older Adults In Australian Community Aquatic And Leisure Facilities: A Socioecological And Multimethod Study

Local governments in Victoria, Australia invest significant public funds into the development and re-development of aquatic and leisure facilities. These facilities are established to cater to local community needs, spanning leisure-time physical activity provision, community development, and inclusive engagement of all community members. Nevertheless, the literature has identified older adults are particularly susceptible to experiencing constraints to leisure-time physical activity participation in aquatic and leisure facilities. The ecological approach to creating active living communities (Sallis et al., 2006) was adopted to gain deeper understanding of the factors influencing leisure-time physical activity among older adults in aquatic and leisure facilities.
