Cumulative number of mental disability certificates Japan FY 2014-2022

In fiscal year 2022, approximately 1.35 million mental disability certificates were recorded in Japan, representing the highest number since 2014. The mental disability certificate in Japan can be issued by mayors of districts to the patients with mental illnesses. The patients with the certificates are entitled to receive services and benefits from the government, such as income tax and resident tax deduction.
