Genomic assemblies and annotation of Catillopecten margaritatus

Deep-sea glass scallop Catillopecten margaritatus (Pectinida: Propeamussiidae) is the first discovered scallop forming ectosymbiosis with chemosynthetic sulfur-oxidizing bacteria, making it an ideal model for investigating adaptations to deep sea and chemosymbiosis. Genomic investigations of the ectosymbiotic bacteria revealed its strong host dependency. However, the extent and nature of the contributions made by the host to this relationship in the deep sea are still unknown. Here, we present the genome of C. margaritatus to shed light on its adaptations to the deep-sea chemosynthetic habitats and symbiotic lifestyle.
