The Patient Instruction (PI) dataset was developed by the Department of Engineering Science of the University of Oxford and other institutions. It contains approximately 35,851 pairs of patient health records and their corresponding discharge instructions. Extracted from the MIMIC-III v1.4 resource, the dataset covers a diverse range of clinical codes including diagnoses, medications, and medical procedures. The development process entails retrieving relevant experiences from historical patient instructions, followed by reasoning and refinement integrated with medical knowledge to generate novel patient instructions. This dataset is primarily designed for the automatic generation of accurate and reliable discharge instructions, with the goal of alleviating clinicians' workload, enhancing patients' self-management capabilities, and ultimately reducing hospital readmission rates.
