Benthos available as food for marine and shoreline birds in the Strait of Georgia

The availability of benthic invertebrates used as food by birds along the shorelines of the Strait of Georgia is strongly related to the sediment preferences and depth distributions of the communities involved. Tides, as well as seasonal and long-term fluctuations in population density of the invertebrates, can also affect the timing and amount of available benthic food.
