In the <em>Letter of Credence from Prince Regent George IV to Emperor Jiaqing</em> (1816), the Prince Regent expressed his wishes to improve British trade conditions at Canton and asked the emperor to receive his ambassador, Lord Amherst. The prince’s letter was translated by Robert Morrison, a British translator serving the British government (Q. Zhuang, 2013, p. 74).
