Exiguobacterium sp. AB2 Genome sequencing and assembly. Exiguobacterium sp. AB2

Exiguobacterium sp. AB2 is a haloalkaliphilic bacterium isolated from an ophiolite spring in Manleluag, Pangasinan Philippines. The spring was found to have a hyperalkaline pH (pH 10-11) with low dissolved oxygen and high salt concentrations. Analysis of the isolate's genome suggests the presence of genes for tolerance to stresses such as elevated pH and salt concentrations and the presence of unique enzymes adapted to extreme environments. Studies of these adaptations and their genetic basis will pave the way for the industrial and environmental applications of the organism and its products.
