Transcriptome analysis of Bacillus cereus strain F837/76 in response to porcine gastric mucin, accomplished by RNA sequencing

In the intestine, B. cereus comes in contact with the epithelial mucus layer. To investigate the overall response to that contact, total transcriptome analyses were performed using porcine gastric mucin (PGM), which is a commonly applied model for mucus interactions. Differential regulation of genes encoding enterotoxins and further virulence factors was of special interest. Overall design: Reference strain F837/76 (=MHI 1505) was grown in triplicates in 50 ml mMOD minimal medium +/- 0.25 % PGM. Initial OD600 was 0.05. After 3 h, 10 ml samples were taken for total RNA preparation.
