The characteristics of the complete chloroplast genome of Bergenia crassifolia (L.) Fritsch

Bergenia crassifolia (L.) Fritsch. is a traditional medicinal species. This study reports its complete chloroplast (cp) genome for the first time. This cp genome is a quadripartite structure with 156,378 base pairs (bp) long and its GC contain is 38%. It is comprised of 128 annotated genes, including 84 protein-coding genes, 36 tRNAs, and 8 rRNAs. Phylogenetic analysis revealed a sister relationship among B. crassifolia, B. purpurascens and B. scopulosa, and it formed a monophyletic group with other closely associated species. The genomic data and findings from the phylogenetic studies of B. crassifolia provide valuable insights for further research on the evolution patterns of this understudied species and Bergenia.
