U.S. Fire Administration (USFA)

The United States Fire Administration (USFA) provides fire incidence data through their National Fire Incidence Reporting System (NFIRS). Data are received quarterly from participating fire departments across the continental U.S. and compiled annually into Public Data Releases (PDRs), which are available for download from OpenFEMA for the years 1980-2022. The PDR is a relational database of 20 tables that are tied together by a 2-, 5- or 6-variable key. The data have been used by stakeholders to prepare for, prevent, mitigate, and respond to fire incidents and have helped reduce the numbers of fire deaths thus making communities and residents across the nation safer. Data analysis tools and additional data sets, such as Wildfires, Fire Loss in the United States, and national and state fire statistics are also available.
