VPRS 11800 Committee Records Relating to Parliamentary Privilege (Legislative Assembly)

This series comprises a variety of records collected or created by a number of ad hoc Select Committees, and from 1974, the Legislative Assembly Privileges Committee in the course of inquires conducted into alleged breaches of parliamentary privilege by members of the Assembly.Although the range of documents created per inquiry/investigation will vary, the following broad categories of documents were generally created during all or most of them:-Minutes of meetings held in the course of each inquiry.Background papers comprising copies of printed material, reports, etc., gathered by the Committee in the course of initial research about the inquiry to be undertaken. These include exhibits.Correspondence files relating to either the actual investigation or organisational aspects of the inquiry.Submissions tended by individuals or organisations during the investigation stating their views on the issues concerned. Some submissions were also received in response to public hearings or issue of the final report.Transcripts of hearings held as part of each inquiry. Copies of the transcripts, which were forwarded to the various participants for amendments or corrections are also included.Reports including the draft and final printed copy as presented to Parliament containing the Committee's findings and recommendations.Interspersed with the records of the Privileges Committee are records created or received by it which relate either to the establishment of the Committee, the issue of privilege generally or cases which did not result in the holding of an inquiry.
