Supporting Dataset of FTIR, Microscopic Images, Sample Descriptions, and Study Map for Microplastic Analysis from Juara, Salang, and Tulai, Tioman Island, Malaysia (August 2024)

This dataset supports the microplastic study conducted in August 2024 at three locations on Tioman Island, Malaysia—Juara, Salang, and Tulai. It includes FTIR spectra of isolated particles, microscopic images, detailed sample descriptions, and KML mapping data. FTIR analysis was conducted using a Shimadzu spectrometer at the Center for Ocean Plastic Studies (COPS), Thailand, and Kyushu University. Each particle’s spectral identity was matched using a validated reference library. The dataset provides valuable insight into the characterization and spatial distribution of microplastics in coastal sediment environments.

All the data in this repository were originally deposited separately under different DOIs. For reference, the microscopic images were previously available at DOI: 10.17632/yf2nnnkx6m.2, the FTIR spectra at DOI: 10.17632/cbvgigjp5v.1, the KML sampling map at DOI: 10.17632/psznjg8gjm.1, and the Excel table at DOI: 10.17632/b43z3m82yx.1. All contents have now been grouped into this single repository to improve findability and ease of access.
