Gout is an acute arthritis caused by elevated levels of serum uric acid (UA), and its prevalence is increasing. Alcohol abuse can lead to a series of health problems. Multiple pieces of evidence suggest that alcohol intake is closely related to the development of gout, and the gut microbiota plays an important role in gout. Long-term alcohol consumption can affect the stability of the gut microbiota. This study aims to explore the effects of alcohol intake at different concentrations on gouty arthritis from the perspective of the gut microbiota.Our research results indicate that high-alcohol consumption exacerbates joint swelling and pain in gouty mice, increases the levels of UA and pro-inflammatory cytokines, and alters the gut microbiota structure.
