Bathycoccus are photosynthetic picoeukaryotes (1-2 micrometer) belonging to the class of Mamiellophyceae. They are distributed in global oceans and especially abundant in coastal waters. The Bathycoccus strain UST710 was isolated from the South China Sea and deposited at the Roscoff Culture Collection (RCC11004). We sequenced the genome of this strain with a combination of Illumina and PacBio technologies. The resulting telomere-to-telomere assembly demonstrates a condensed (size, 15.34 Mb; predicted genes, 7865) but complete genome (BUSCO completeness, 97%). Genome comparison showed that the genome of strain UST710 belongs to a novel Bathycoccus clade. This genome provides insight into the diversity, evolution, and niche adaptation of Bathycoccus.
