Study of the Required Psychological Characteristics of Humans Regarding Insertion into the Antarctic Environment and their Application

This research began with observations and sampling during the 1994/95
Antarctic Campaign. The human behavior index of adaptability to the social
mean and environment, and different personality characteristics of each crew
member at the scientific Antarctic base, Artigas, were studied.

The main goal of this project is to establish some parameters to improve the
selection of personnel. Improvement in the selection process is aimed at
elaborating a Profile of the Antarctic Man, which will allow a better
adaptation and resistance of the person to the isolating environment of
Antarctica and enhance his family's welfare during his stay. Hopefully, It
will also minimize the factors of incidence that could be harmful for said
assignment .
