Climate change has impacted the distribution and frequency of environmental anomalies in the northeastern Pacific Ocean, creating marked heterogeneities in the time and location of heat waves and hypoxia. The pelagic copepod Calanus marshallae is an important member of the oceanic food web. This study examines for the first time the physiological response of this species to hypoxia and heat stress by quantifying gene expression in an experimental setting. We generated RNA-seq data using mRNA libraries.
