VPRS 9947 Legal Opinion Files

This series comprises files containing legal opinions provided to Public Service Board (VA 886) on various issues from the Crown Solicitors Office and the Legal Officer of the Board during the period 1987 to 1992. Prior to 1987 apparently the original opinions were filed on the central correspondence files. A copy of the opinion was filed on the Legal Opinion Books (see VPRS 9945).The legal opinions mainly concern issues relating to employment within the Victorian Public Service. The issues included:Long service entitlementUnion activityEmployment disputesClarification of entitlements/conditions and terms of employment and dismissal procedures for individuals and groups.The files contain legal opinions, agreements, correspondence exchanged and copies of legislation. These files were maintained by the Legal Officer of the Public Service Board until 1992. In 1992 the position of the Legal Officer was abolished and the Head of the Legal Branch of the Department of Premier and Cabinet took over the role of the Legal Officer.
