Plate WM 2.2 - 2060 Future Conditions Average Wet Season Groundwater Elevation

On February 7th 2017 the Broward County Board of Commissioners approved the future conditions map series (Item 7). This item provides for the creation of a series of maps that will be used to aid in the design of infrastructure to be resilient with anticipated climate change effects. The first map in the series is the Future Conditions Average Wet Season Groundwater Elevation Map. This map will provide the antecedent conditions for new or major modifications to surface water permitted projects. The map utilized the County’s hydrologic models with anticipated future sea level rise (USACE NRC Curve 3) and future precipitation patterns (COAPS CCSM) and averages the groundwater elevations over the May-October periods during the years of 2060-2069. To ensure the resiliency of current and future infrastructure investments, it is necessary to modernize many aspects of regional planning and licensing requirements. With the influence of climate change, and the impacts of sea level rise in particular, no longer is it prudent to rely solely upon historic and current environmental conditions as the basis for infrastructure planning, design and permitting.
