A Human Modification Data Dataset of China (1980–2020)

This dataset is designed to provide a comprehensive and localized representation of human modification across China, facilitating a more accurate understanding of human activity patterns and their impacts on the environment. It integrates seven key categories of indicators that capture the multifaceted nature of human interventions and their spatial distribution:  (1) human settlements (population density, urban land, and rural settlements), (2) agricultural activities (paddy land, dryland, and pasture land), (3) infrastructure (other construction land), (4) roads and railways (highways, national roads, provincial roads, other roads, high-speed railways, and regular railways), (5) navigable waterways, (6) electric power facilities (nightlight), and (7) Water conservancy facilities (reservoirs).
