This dataset contains two types of modeling results related to deep earthquakes and subduction zones, packaged in the `subevent_and_thermal_models.zip` file: 1. **Subevent Source Models:** Subevent models for global M7+ deep earthquakes (depth > 500 km) from 1990-2023. 2. **Thermal Models:** Temperature distributions along 2D transects of various subduction zones across these deep earthquakes (with multiple subevents). The zip file contains two main folders: `SubeventModels` and `ThermalModels`. Each folder contains the respective data files and a specific README detailing the format (summarized below). --- ## 1. Subevent Source Models (`SubeventModels/`) Describes earthquake sources as multiple subevents. Files contain blocks of data, each representing one main earthquake. ### File Format **Event Header Line:** * Col 1: `Event` (ID, e.g., YYYYMMDD) * Col 2: `Mag` (Mw) * Col 3: `Vr(km/s)` (Avg. rupture velocity) * Col 4: `Theta(°)` (Rupture directivity, clockwise from N) **Subevent Data Lines (follow header):** * Col 1: `Time(s)` (Relative time) * Col 2: `M0(*1e27 dyne-cm)` (Scalar moment, scaled) * Cols 3-8: Moment Tensor Components (`Mrr`, `Mtt`, `Mpp`, `Mrt`, `Mrp`, `Mtp`), scaled as M0 * Col 9: `Longitude` (degrees) * Col 10: `Latitude` (degrees) * Col 11: `Depth(km)` --- ## 2. Thermal Models (`thermal_models/`) Contains adjusted temperature data for 2D subduction zone transects. ### File Naming Convention Pattern: `Absolute_[Resolution]_PlateModel_[TransectNumber].txt` * `Absolute`: Indicates adjusted temperatures. * `[Resolution]`: Grid resolution (e.g., `2km`). * `[TransectNumber]`: Transect ID (e.g., `2`). Example: `Absolute_2km_PlateModel_2.txt` = Transect #2, 2km resolution. ### Data Format Space-separated text (`.txt`), each row is a point: 1. `distance_km`: Horizontal distance (km). 2. `depth_km`: Depth (km). 3. `adjusted_temperature_C`: Final temperature (°C). **Note:** Temperatures (Col 3) are final, including the adiabatic gradient (0.3 °C/km). No further adjustment needed.
