PENLEG II

The PENLEG II – Pension Legislation around the World (Africa, Asia, the Americas) dataset traces the pension history of 100 countries in Africa, Asia and the Americas from 1900 to 2021on an annual basis. It covers the following kinds of variables: a) pension introduction dates, b) pension law names, c) pension designs, d) de jure coverage of pension programs, e) eligibility criteria, f) modes of financing and e) de jure/de facto benefit generosity levels. The PENLEG II dataset is subdivided into two files. The first file entitled “PENLEG_II_coverage” shows data on the de jure coverage of pension programs, whereas the second file entitled “PENLEG_II_features” is devoted to data on pension designs, eligibility criteria, modes of financing and benefit generosity levels. In addition, both files inform about introduction dates and the names of the respective pension programs.
