The records in this series are primarily those of three successive Chairmen of the Public Service Board; Wallace C. Wurth, 1939-60; Sir John Goodsell, 1960-71; and Sir Harold Dickinson, 1971-79, and consist of unregistered correspondence, miscellaneous papers and reports received by the Chairmen. The series also includes copies of letters sent by the Chairmen and reflects the numerous public offices, both ex-officio and elected, which they held, most notably Wurth's records relating to his responsibility as Director General of Manpower during the Second World War, and as Chancellor of the University of New South Wales.
