A dual-chamber microbial fuel cell (MFC) system was optimized using dairy waste activated sludge (WAS), with modifications made to the anodic chamber solids concentration, salt bridge length, and salt bridge agar concentration. Optimization was viewed as crucial for achieving better results. Samples were collected from the anodic chambers of the cells that produced the highest and lowest voltage outputs. These samples performed metagenomic analysis, revealing variations in microbial species composition within the microbial fuel cell. This study improved our understanding of the microbial populations involved in MFC operation and how they respond to different optimization settings.The metagenomic analysis of dairy WAS was also performed.
