16S rRNA gene data of creek runoff microbiome following the 2022 Coastal Fire

This dataset include V3-V4 region16sRNA sequencing data of field samples collected from Aliso Creek following the 2022 Coastal Fire in Orange County, California, USA. The fire burned 200 acres, with 20 homes destroyed and 12 damaged, making it a wildland-urban interface fire. The overarching objective of the study was to evaluate the dynamics between pyrogenic contaminants mobilized during post-fire storms and the surface water microbiome in Aliso Creek, which passes through the burned area. The specific goals of this study were to 1) perform a field campaign to sample during the dry season and then immediately after rain events, 2) evaluate changes in microbiome composition and predicted microbiome function, and 3) quantify pyrogenic and anthropogenic runoff organic contaminants.
