The present study aims at characterizing the whole genome of a poorly known environmental nontuberculous mycobacterium, M. llatzerense. This species is frequently found colonizing drinking water networks. Recently, M. llatzerense was described as frequently associated with free-living amoebae in water networks. The genomic investigation of M. llatzerense will therefore help to understand the potentially conserved mechanisms involved in resistance to phagocytosis, shared between tuberculous and environmental mycobacteria.
