资源简介:
The project to publish the ancient inscriptions of Caesarea of Mauretania (Cherchell, Algeria) was initiated in 2010 by Philippe Leveau, Professor Emeritus of Archaeology at the University of Aix-Marseille. Its aim is to publish all antic epigraphic texts from the ancient capital of the Roman province of Mauretania Caesarea. Caesarea's epigraphy features inscriptions engraved between the time of the kings Juba II and Ptolemy and Late Antiquity and Christianity. It is distinguished by its quantitative (some 1,300 texts) and qualitative richness (with very diverse categories of inscriptions: dedications, tributes, epitaphs, etc. engraved on a variety of supports and sometimes accompanied by reliefs).
The database accessible supports the corpus project by bringing together and making available to the scientific community the inscriptions studied and the photographs illustrating them.
