Hungarian electricity consumers experienced a decrease in the price of electricity from 2020 to 2022, with the price falling to 0.07euros per kilowatt hour (kWh) in the first half of 2022.  However, prices increased again to 0.09 euros by the second half of the year and remained at the same level in 2023.Energy in HungaryHungary uses a diverse range of fuels to generate energy. Nuclear plays a significant role in the Hungarian energy industry, with energy derived from nuclear sources making up nearly half of the country’s energy mix. Hungary’s capacity to generate energy from renewable sources has increased significantly in recent years, climbing from 582 megawatts in 2008, to 3,002 megawatts in 2021.Average electricity prices across EuropeWhen it comes to the average price of household electricity prices in Europe, Hungary has the second lowest prices, following the Netherlands. Hungarian households with an annual consumption of 2,500 kWh to 5,000 kWh could expect to pay 10.03 euro cents per kWh in 2021. In the first half of 2021, Germany had the highest electricity prices of all European countries.
