Pulmonary microbiome of Pneumocystis jirovecii-infected patients

Pneumocystis jirovecii is an atypical fungus which primarily infects immunocompromised individuals, causing a disease known as Pneumocystis pneumonia (PCP). PCP has a very high mortality rate, and its incidence has seen a marked rise in the past two decades. In this study, we profile the pulmonary microbiome of patients with PCP and stratify them by disease severity, with the aim of uncovering bacterial markers for disease severity.
