Sequences from a stable isotope probing incubation of the endogenous microbial community at Chocolate Pots hot springs (CP). Incubations were designed probe for the Fe(III)-reducing microbial populating native to CP that is actively cycling Fe in situ. Previous enrichment culturing experiments demonstrated the ability of native microbial community members to reducing Fe(III), and geochemical evidence supports Fe(III) reduction activity in situ, but the microbial population responsible for this process in situ is not known.
