Wilson #3 (46HY101), located along the floodplain of the South Branch of the Potomac
River, represents the Early Woodland through early Middle Woodland periods. A ceramic
sherd was recovered and was submitted for pollen, starch, phytoliths, and organic residue
analysis, the latter using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). Pollen, starch and
phytolith analysis will be used to provide information concerning plant resources utilized by the
occupants of this site. FTIR analysis will be used to provide information concerning foods
processed or stored within this vessel.
