In the first quarter of 2022, money transfers worth over 1.36 billion U.S. dollars were sent from Russia via payment systems like Contact, Western Union, Zolotaya Korona, Unistream, and Russian Post. The figure saw a decrease by nearly 17 percent from the corresponding period of the previous year. Due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine that began in February 2022, Western Union stopped operating in Russia.
