Kalanchoe genome sequencing to provide genome resources for improvement of water use efficiency via engineering of Crassulacean Acid Metabolism. CAM is a specialized mode of photosynthesis, used by Kalanchoe marnieriana, that permits the uptake of CO2 at night and thereby dramatically improves the water use efficiency of carbon assimilation in plants growing in water-limited habitats.
