Urban Green Cover (NDVI) and Built-up Intensity (NDBI) Analysis for Chennai Region — Oct, 2025 Dataset

This dataset presents a comprehensive spatial analysis of urban greenness (NDVI) and built-up density (NDBI) across the Chennai metropolitan region for the year 2025.The data has been processed from Sentinel-2 satellite imagery using 10-meter resolution bands, ensuring a detailed and accurate representation of vegetation cover and urban expansion patterns. The dataset forms part of I Hug Trees’ ongoing research initiative on urban environmental health, which combines satellite-based indices with open geospatial methods to monitor changes in city ecosystems. Contents include: NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) raster and color-mapped imagery NDBI (Normalized Difference Built-up Index) raster and visual outputs Region metadata, processing logs, and statistical CSV summaries Preview images for quick reference and visualization Use cases:Urban planning, climate resilience studies, green infrastructure mapping, ecological impact assessment, and academic or public research on sustainable cities. Processing details:Data was subset and analyzed for the Chennai region using Sentinel-2 Level-2A products (10m resolution). NDVI and NDBI were computed using standard spectral band ratios and color-scaled for easy interpretation.
