This is a photograph of [left to right] Frs. Toomey , Lavin and Lima. They are relaxing in a tea house.; Born in Massachusetts, Fr. Toomey came to Maryknoll in 1918 and was ordained to the priesthood in 1922. He was assigned to Kongmoon, China. After five years he was transferred to the Philippines. In 1931 he returned to China and Kongmoon. He served in various capacities and in 1941 was appointed Procurator and Local Superior of the Maryknoll house at Stanley, Hong Kong. He had a difficult time in Hong Kong risking imprisonment and escaping to India and eventually to the United States. He returned to China after the war as Vicar Delegate in Kongmoon. He became pastor of Toishan City. He was placed under house arrest in 1951 and evicted from China in 1952. -- Born in Massachusetts, Fr. Lavin came to Maryknoll in 1924 and was ordained to the priesthood in 1932. He was assigned to Kongmoon, South China that same year. He was taken by the communists but released in 1953. In 1954 he was assigned to Hawaii and also did promotion work in the United States including work in the Chicago, Illinois Chinese mission.
