This database presents results of two research
projects carried out in four Brazilian long-term institutions, 3 in the city of
Rio de Janeiro (RJ) and 1 in Montes Claros (MG) between the years 2015 and
2018. The sample comprises 67 elderly, data were collected on age, sex, global
cognition (Brazilian version of the Mini Mental State Examination - MEEM)
(Bertolucci et al., 1994), frailty syndrome (SF) based on the criteria proposed
by Fried et al. , 2001, depressive symptoms through the Brazilian version
Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS) (De Sousa et al., 2007). Still, for the
evaluation of memory, the tests of verbal fluency (FV) were used in order to
evaluate the semantic memory and the executive function (Brucki, S. M. et al.,
1997); Digit Span Forward (DSF) and Backward (DSB) to check short-term and
working memory, respectively (Schroeder, R. W. et al., 2012).
The inclusion criteria were: i) being a resident of a
long-term institution; ii) be 60 years of age or older; iii) understand and
answer commands. The exclusion criteria were: i) dependent walking; ii) severe
cardiovascular and neurological diseases.
Following the
ethical precepts, the projects were approved by their respective Research
Ethics Committees, according to the place and period of collection, which are:
Research Ethics Committee of the Universidade Federal Fluminense, under the
registration 1,178,067 in the year of 2015 and by the Research Ethics Committee
of the State University of Montes Claros under opinion 2,398,863 in the year
2017. All participants or their guardians signed the informed consent form in
accordance with resolution 466/2012 of the National Council of Health in
Brazil.
