The use of the UV-LEDs as a means of adhering sections to the slide is superior to the commercial CryoJane system because the UV can be applied over a longer time (seconds versus milliseconds). This extended application time allows in a 40–50X increase in the total amount of UV that is applied to the slide. We have arranged the UV-LEDs into an array that delivers equal amount of UV across the entire slide. Therefore a single pulse of UV can be used to adhere all of the sections on the slide, without the need to rotate the slide. As a result of these improvements, sectioning rate has increased by 2.5X. Section quality is system independent (when 2 pulses per slide are used with the CryoJane system) and a direct function of sectioning procedure (Fig 3).
