VPRS 12414 Return of Queens Writs

This series records the receipt of writs at the Court relating to Supreme Court, County Court and Court of General Sessions cases in which the Crown was the plaintiff. Information included the date of receipt, from whom the writ was received (such as from other courts or the Sheriff), the nature of the writ, the plaintiff, the name of the defendant, the amount and the further return and disposal of the writ.Entries under the heading are for both warrants and writs. Writs are mainly for ca.sa (capias ad satisfaciendum) or fi.fa (fieri facias). The latter type of writ directs the sheriff at the Supreme Court tp seize assets belonging to the defendant with a view to selling them in order to pay the judgment amount. A ca.sa. writ does the same but also has the defendant arrested. Both writs are normally served against defendants who have been declared insolvent.
