Patients' Attitudes toward AI in Mental Health Care- data set Title of manuscript: Open to AI, Cautious About Its Role: Patients’ Attitudes in Mental Health Care Abstract: Understanding patient perspectives is important for implementing artificial intelligence (AI) in mental health care. We conducted a cross-sectional survey of 508 adults at a university medical center in Germany to examine attitudes and patients’ perspectives regarding AI in mental health care and their associations with individual characteristics. Participants showed moderately positive AI attitudes but limited reported knowledge of mental health AI. Acceptance varied by application, with greater acceptance of supportive than clinically consequential uses. Most participants preferred disclosure of AI use (89.8%) and remained uncomfortable with unexplainable AI decisions despite 98% accuracy (56.7%). Participants with a mental disorder reported lower scores on AI attitude scales (AIAS-4, ATTARI-12) than those without. AI attitudes also varied depending on education, affinity for technology and health literacy. Overall, patient acceptance appears context-dependent, emphasizing the importance of human oversight, transparency, and explainability.
