资源简介:

Diplomatic communication is inherently characterized by indirectness, ambiguity, and strategic language use. One of the central mechanisms that enable such communication is implicature, which allows speakers to convey meanings beyond literal expressions. This article presents a cross-linguistic pragmatic study of implicature in diplomatic terminology in English and Uzbek. The research investigates how diplomatic terms function as carriers of implicit meaning and how they are employed to achieve political and communicative objectives. Drawing on theoretical frameworks from pragmatics, particularly implicature theory and politeness theory, the study analyzes examples from diplomatic discourse in both languages. The findings indicate that implicature plays a crucial role in shaping diplomatic communication by facilitating politeness, preserving neutrality, and enabling strategic flexibility. While English diplomatic language demonstrates a higher degree of standardization and implicitness, Uzbek diplomatic discourse reflects culturally specific politeness strategies and expressive forms. The study contributes to comparative linguistics, diplomatic discourse analysis, and pragmatics.
