Metagenomes and Metatranscriptomes of samples taken at Santa Monica Pier off the Coast of Southern California. marine plankton metagenome

Seawater samples were taken at Santa Monica Pier off the coast of Southern California during the spring phytoplankton bloom days in 2018. Samples were taken daily at ~10 AM from April 16 to Apr 30, and maximal chlorophyll concentration was observed on day April 20. Water samples were first prefiltered using an 80 micron mess filter, then passed through 0.02 micron Sterivex filters to collect microbes. DNA and RNA were extracted from these Sterivex filters, and metagenomic and metatranscriptomic libraries were prepared and sequenced.
