VPRS 13077 Register of Licensees, Section 53 Land Act 1862

Under a series of Land Acts between 1862 and 1869, persons were able to apply for licences to occupy land for a number of diverse purposes. Some of these purposes under section 50 of the Land Act 1862 allowed persons to legally occupy auriferous (gold-bearing) land which otherwise was closed to legal occupation.Entries in this register are to do with licences granted under Section 53 of the Land Act 1862Details given are the name of the licensee, the description of the land to be occupied (entered as waste or Crown) and the purpose of the occupation and the date, period and cost of the licence.
