Transgenerational inheritance of sex reversal in medaka. Oryzias latipes

We have found that hormonal induced-sex reversal in F0 generation was inherited to until F5 generations. Some reports show that expression of sex differentiation related gene is regulated by DNA methylation, and this DNA methylation change was inherit to next generation through the sperm in tonge sole. Thus, we expected this inheritance of sex reversal was related DNA methylation. Only sex reversed XX could be inherit sex reversal to subsequent F2 offspring as true transgenerational inheritance. Therefore, we expected that preferentially methyation pattern of sex reversed XX sperm is the key factor of sex reversal inheritance. To examine the methylation state of sperm between XY and sex reversed XX, we performed whole genome methylation analysis.
