By comparing the microbial profiles of carious dentin biofilms and lesional root canals in patients with apical periodontitis, we aimed to obtain insights into the association between dental caries and apical periodontitis and to identify key pathogens involved in the relationship.The canal and biofilm exudate samples were collected from 31 patients with apical periodontitis. The biofilm samples were obtained from lesional and non-lesional dentin regions.
