资源简介:
190 Laurier is situated in Sandy Hill which was the former estate of Louis Theodore Besserer [1], a notary from Quebec. The community of Sandy Hill contains buildings dating back to the 1880s from a variety of architectural styles. The facade of the building contains the original red brick facade which is unique compared to most of the University of Ottawa brick buildings that were painted grey when purchased in the late 1960s. In 1911, Dr. Robert Law, a notable medical officer who dealt with the typhoid epidemic and Spanish influenza epidemic, resided and worked at 190 Laurier Avenue, along with his family [2][3]. 190 Laurier plays a key part in the heritage district of Sandy Hill and contributes to the historical values of the community. As the use of the building has changed, the exterior of the building has remained intact. However, a large part of the interior has gone through renovations and rearrangements. The Victorian style of the building can be seen through the building’s asymmetry, cornice mouldings, segmented arches, red brick facade and tall sash windows. The interior features, such as the mouldings around door frames and the original wood-carved banister, also add to the building’s architectural value. This is the Integrated Project Dossier compiled by a group of undergraduate students of the Architectural Conservation and Sustainability Program (Engineers and architects) at Carleton University for the CIVE3207 (ARCN4100) Historic Site Recording and Assessment course in 2017.
