Ginseng is one of the most important medicinal herb plants used in traditional Chinese and Korean medicine. Prepared from the root of Panax ginseng, it is of great economic importance, traded internationally. It belongs to family Araliaceae. It has been used in maintaining physical vitality and is believed to have other pharmaceutical properties to improve cardiovascular, endocrine, and immune system. It has also been shown to have radio-protective effect. Ginsenosides are the major constituents of ginseng, Rg1 being a potent phytoestrogen.
